Happy Easter! Thank you for joining us on the Carbon Fast We hope you had a blessed Lenten season. Feel free to e-mail comments about your Carbon Fast experience at PlymouthCarbonFast@sunflower.com.
Carbon Fast Day 46: Saturday, April 3rd Replace the light bulb you removed at the start of the Carbon Fast (make sure it’s an energy saving one!) Review the actions you've taken during Lent. Make a list of three or four that you want to keep doing this month. Repeat each month, or when you can, to get into carbon saving habits. Give thanks to God for your Carbon Fasting experience and pray that he may help you to sustain what you have done during Lent.
Carbon Fast Day 45: Friday, April 2nd Take a shower instead of a bath. Look into getting a more efficient shower with a ‘low-flow’ shower head. Low-flow shower heads mix air with water flow which can decrease the amount of water needed by half. Look for shower heads rated at less than 2 gallons of water per minute. Carbon Fast Day 44: Thursday, April 1st Close the curtains to keep the cold out and the heat in. Bonus: Line your curtains to reduce heat being lost.
Carbon Fast Day 43: Wednesday, March 31st What's your local community doing to tackle climate change? Could you encourage local businesses or shops to switch off lights each evening, support greener travel to work, insulate their buildings or switch to renewable energy?
Carbon Fast Day 42: Tuesday, March 30th Less is more. Try to buy food with the least, or most recyclable, packaging and avoid disposable plastic bags. Packaging is energy-intensive, it accounts for 7 percent of food system energy use.
Carbon Fast Day 41: Monday, March 29th Cook double portions. Bulk-cook and freeze extra portions to reheat when you need them. Carbon Fast Day 40: Sunday, March 28th Focus on the world. Check the news headlines and pray for the people behind one news story that impacts the environment or a developing country.
Carbon Fast Day 39: Saturday, March 27th Block unused fireplaces. Stuff scrunched-up newspaper up unused fireplaces to stop heat escaping through the chimney – a good method as it still allows a little air to circulate.
Carbon Fast Day 38: Friday, March 26th Make do and mend. Do you have clothes you could wear longer if you gave them a little TLC? Spend some time doing old-fashioned mending.
